I was sprawled across the floor at home on Sunday trying to put together a Latin mix so I was going through lots of the Nu Yorican sound and Latin Jazz but time and again the stuff I was picking out was Bossa Nova and not in Spanish. I realised that so much of the music I love is Brazilian. Instead then of lumping them both together I would devote a mix to the music of that great and huge country. The land of the carnival, samba soccer, amazing dancers and a real melting pot of a gene pool. Of course Jorge Ben Jor is Brazilian and one of my all time favourite artists.

The mix itself is not intended to be a rough guide or complete snapshot of the Brazilian sound - that would be impossible. It's merely some of my favourite tunes that I enjoy listening to. It kicks off very mellow with the imitable Bebel Gilberto and the incredibly sexy voice of Rossas Passos and slips into some straight up Bossa Noova. Really the Bossa Nova theme is never far away cause that's just my thing.

This is a mix from all African artists (apart from one track which I just could'nt help myself from including).

There's some amazing music out there on various compilations . If you like what you here I would urge you to support African artists and buy some of these. if your in Cork the lads in Plugd always have a small but well chosen selection. Labels such as Soundway and African Analogue are ones to look out for.

I must say a special hello to Voodoo Frank for turning me onto lot's of these and for his heroic efforts spending four years living and record collecting in West Africa. He's a modern day Alan Lomax. Understandably the quality is not the greatest on some of these as they have been pulled from basements, bars and god knows where from Bamako to Ouagadougou.

Thanks for looking at this page. I was out for a walk with my lovely dog Rudolph the other evening in Myterville where I live. It was bright and warm untill half ten and just beautiful. When I came home I recorded this mix. I was trying to put my good feelings into music.
